From Farm Harvests to Bigger Opportunities
BOHOL - Discussions between the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and Land Bank focused on ways to strengthen Bohol’s ubi production while improving connections between farmers and potential markets. The proposed approach covers the entire agricultural value chain—from production and consolidation to processing and marketing. This means Bohol’s ubi could have more opportunities to move beyond the farm gate, giving local producers and agricultural enterprises more ways to turn their harvests into sustainable income.
Planning the Industry for the Years Ahead
The province is developing a comprehensive Ubi industry value-chain framework supported by a five-year financial outlook covering 2027 to 2031. The plan examines economic opportunities at different stages of the industry while placing emphasis on access to financing. Stronger financial support could help farmers and agricultural businesses invest in production, post-harvest activities, processing, and other improvements needed to make the industry more competitive. With financial planning included from the beginning, the initiative aims to give Bohol’s ubi sector a clearer path for long-term growth.
Keeping Ubi Kinampay at the Heart of Bohol’s Future
The push to develop the ubi industry is also a way of protecting the cultural identity attached to Ubi Kinampay, while creating new livelihood opportunities for farming communities. A stronger value chain can help preserve local agricultural knowledge while opening doors for new products, markets, and businesses. Bohol’s ubi story is no longer just about a beloved local crop—it is about building an industry that can carry the province’s heritage into the future, create opportunities for farmers, and contribute to a more competitive and sustainable agricultural economy across the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark.
