TACLOBAN CITY — Residents of Barangays 12, 37-A, and 103 experienced direct government care as the City Government of Tacloban brought its flagship outreach program to the Barangay 12 GE Palanog Covered Court earlier this morning, October 1, 2026. The "Tacloban Barangayan" initiative welcomed hundreds of local constituents who welcomed the opportunity to access essential services right in their neighborhood without needing to travel downtown.
Essential Healthcare and Community Services Within Reach
The outreach program offered a wide array of public services tailored to community needs, highlighted by free medical consultations, free medicines, and skills and livelihood registrations. Meanwhile, children and students turned out in large numbers to take full advantage of the free dental services. The timing proved especially convenient for families, as the visit coincided with the city-wide class suspension declared for Teacher's Day, allowing students to easily receive dental care.
Bridging the Gap Between Government and Barangays
Local officials emphasized that the Barangayan program is designed to bring local governance directly to the grassroots, ensuring that basic services reach marginalized and outlying communities efficiently. By cutting down travel costs and making healthcare and documentation accessible, the city government continues to strengthen community welfare and foster inclusive development across Tacloban.
