DAVAO— The City Government of Digos has been conferred the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance for 2022 and 2023, recognizing its sustained commitment to promoting and protecting the rights and welfare of every child. The awards were presented during the Regional Conferment Ceremony held on October 8, 2026, at Sotogrande Hotel Davao.

A Testament to Sustained Commitment

City Administrator Rex Fortich Cagas and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Elmie A. Vibas received the awards on behalf of the city government. Their presence underscored the administration's dedication to ensuring that child protection and development remain integral to public service delivery.

The SCFLG recognizes local government units that create safe, nurturing, and child-friendly environments where children can grow, learn, participate, and thrive. For Digos City, this recognition reflects years of deliberate effort to strengthen local governance and uphold children's rights as a cornerstone of development.

A Collaborative Achievement

The award was made possible through the collective efforts of multiple departments and partner agencies within the Local Government Unit. The City Health Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office, Department of Education, Local Youth Development Office, Public Employment Service Office, and City Planning and Development Office all contributed to the achievement.

Additional partners included the City Budget Office, City Local Governance Operations Office, City Accounting Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Philippine National Police, and partner Civil Society Organizations. This broad coalition demonstrates that child-friendly governance requires shared responsibility across all sectors.

Beyond the Award

More than a plaque or certificate, the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance represents a continuing commitment. It reminds local leaders that building a child-friendly city is an ongoing process rather than a one-time accomplishment. The recognition inspires Digos City to further enhance initiatives that place children at the center of local development.

The city's programs focus on four key areas: children's survival, development, protection, and participation. These pillars ensure that young Digoseños receive comprehensive support from health services to educational opportunities and protective measures. The seal validates that these efforts are making a measurable difference.

A Model for Other LGUs

Digos City's achievement offers a replicable blueprint for other local government units across the region. The success stems from systematic coordination, consistent investment in child-focused programs, and genuine political will to prioritize the youngest constituents.

The city government expressed gratitude to all partner agencies and individuals who contributed to this milestone. Their collective work ensures that every child in Digos City has the opportunity to reach their full potential. This recognition fuels the city's resolve to continue improving services and creating an environment where children can flourish.
