MAYORGA, LEYTE — Residents of Barangay Liberty can now enjoy significantly safer and more convenient travel following the completion of the new Liberty Bridge by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO). The newly constructed infrastructure successfully replaces an aging Bailey bridge that had deteriorated significantly over time, eliminating long-standing safety hazards for motorists, pedestrians, and commuters navigating the area.
Enhanced Infrastructure and Modern Safety Features
Designed to withstand heavy daily use, the upgraded bridge features sturdy concrete approaches on both sides to provide a stable, smooth passage for vehicles. To further protect motorists and travelers after dark, the DPWH installed solar-powered streetlights to improve nighttime visibility, alongside crisp pavement markings for clearer navigational guidance. These vital improvements ensure round-the-clock safety for the students, workers, fisherfolk, and local families who rely on the crossing daily.
Empowering Local Livelihoods and Community Access
Beyond improving physical connectivity to and from the coastal zones, the modernized bridge streamlines the transport of agricultural and fishery goods, offering robust support to local livelihoods and regional trade. Aligned with national infrastructure goals under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and DPWH leadership, the project underscores an ongoing commitment to building resilient public works that elevate the quality of life across rural communities.
