The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) of Negros Oriental spearheaded a two-day Specialized Training on the Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) Perspective of Trafficking-in-Persons (STOP TIP) from November 5 to 6 in Dumaguete City. The activity aimed to strengthen the capacity of service providers in handling child-sensitive cases involving online child abuse and human trafficking. It also focused on improving referral mechanisms among local government units to ensure better protection and support for victims.
Strengthening Child Protection and Case Management
The specialized training sought to equip service providers with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to OSAEC and trafficking-in-persons cases. Participants were trained to handle sensitive situations involving children while ensuring that their welfare and protection remain a priority. The initiative also emphasized strengthening coordination among local government units and relevant agencies.
Experts Discuss Laws and Digital Threats
Provincial Assistant Prosecutor Emmylou Bendanillo and Police Captain Gaudioso Morte, chief of the Anti-Cybercrime Group of the Philippine National Police–Negros Oriental, served as resource speakers during the activity. The first day focused on governing laws and mechanisms related to OSAEC and trafficking-in-persons. Meanwhile, the second day discussed digital tools and methods used by perpetrators, helping participants better understand emerging online threats.
Improving Referral Systems and Community Protection
The training highlighted the importance of coordinated action in addressing online child exploitation and human trafficking. By strengthening referral mechanisms and improving the capabilities of service providers, Negros Oriental aims to ensure more effective responses to reported cases. The initiative supports broader efforts to protect children and vulnerable individuals through stronger local collaboration and awareness.
