The City Government of Dumaguete continues to promote a more inclusive and compassionate community through a two-day Live-in Sensitivity Training on Persons with Disabilities held on September 10–11, 2026, at Plaza Maria Luisa Suites Inn. Organized through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the Persons with Disability Center / Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), the activity focused on improving awareness, understanding, and support for persons with disabilities across different sectors of the city.
Promoting Greater Understanding and Stronger Empathy
Guided by the theme “Greater Understanding, Stronger Empathy, A More Inclusive Community,” the training encouraged participants to develop a deeper understanding of the experiences and needs of persons with disabilities. The program highlighted the importance of breaking accessibility barriers and creating a rights-based approach to public service. It also emphasized compassion, respect, and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities within the community.
Building a More Inclusive Community in Dumaguete
The activity served as an avenue for participants to learn more about disability awareness and the importance of inclusive practices. Through discussions and sensitivity-focused activities, the training aimed to encourage more responsive services and stronger cooperation among community sectors. These efforts contribute to a city where persons with disabilities can participate more fully in social, cultural, and public life.
Supporting Persons With Disabilities Through Assistive Devices
As part of the activity, assistive devices were also distributed to persons with disabilities. The distribution included mobility support equipment, such as wheelchairs, intended to help recipients with their daily activities and mobility needs. Providing assistive devices is an important step toward improving accessibility, independence, and quality of life for persons with disabilities. It also reflects the city’s continuing efforts to respond to the practical needs of its residents.
