A New Ozamiz–Veracruz Connection

OZAMIZ CITY - Misamis University and Universidad Cristóbal Colón signed their Memorandum of Understanding through a hybrid ceremony, with participants joining from campuses in Ozamiz and Veracruz. The agreement was signed by Misamis University President Dr. Karen Belina F. De Leon and UCC Rector Padre Francisco Javier Alonso Arroyo, linking two institutions separated by thousands of kilometers. The university said administrators, deans, department heads, and selected students from its 11 colleges took part in the ceremony, giving the occasion a broad representation from the Ozamiz campus. It is a small reminder that international education can begin with a conversation between institutions, even when those conversations happen across oceans.

Many Fields, One Shared Classroom

What makes the partnership particularly interesting is the range of subjects identified for possible collaboration. Misamis University said UCC has programs related to Medicine, Nutrition and Food Science, Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Economics, International Business, Computer Systems, Education, Communication, Law, Languages, and Psychology, among others. These areas overlap with disciplines already present in a comprehensive university setting, giving the partnership several possible directions for future academic activities. The agreement does not mean that exchanges or joint programs are automatically guaranteed, but it establishes a formal framework through which the two universities can explore cooperation in fields that matter to students and educators.

From Ozamiz to a Wider Academic Map

For Ozamiz, the partnership adds another layer to the city's growing international academic story. Misamis University's Linkages and International Affairs Office lists student and faculty exchanges, fellowships, internships, training, research, conferences, and other forms of cooperation among the activities it pursues with local and international partners. The university has also recorded other international engagements during 2026, making the Mexico agreement part of a broader pattern rather than an isolated event. For students in Ozamiz, the most meaningful part may ultimately be what develops after the signing: new academic conversations, exposure to another culture, and opportunities that can connect local education with ideas from farther afield.
