DAVAO — Davao de Oro launched its first-ever "Kalamboan Kontra Rabies" Pet Run on September 27, 2026, at the Capitol Grounds. The event gathered fur parents and their dogs for a morning dedicated to rabies prevention and responsible pet ownership across the province.
A Historic First for Davao de Oro
Various dog breeds participated alongside their owners in the 1.3-kilometer run. The event marked the first time the province organized a pet-centered activity specifically aimed at combating rabies. Excitement filled the Capitol Grounds as dogs of all sizes trotted alongside their human companions.
Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Rolando S. Simene explained that the activity forms part of the Provincial Government's support for the anti-rabies campaign. Governor Raul Mabanglo's administration has prioritized animal welfare and public health through this innovative initiative.
Free Services for Every Pet
After the run, participants received a range of free veterinary services. Anti-rabies vaccinations were administered to protect both pets and their owners from the deadly virus. Deworming treatments ensured the dogs' overall health and well-being.
Veterinary consultations allowed fur parents to ask questions about proper pet care. Free grooming sessions added a touch of pampering, leaving the dogs looking and feeling their best. Sponsor companies provided freebies, adding to the festive atmosphere of the day.
Education on Rabies Prevention
The Provincial Health Office and Provincial Veterinary Office conducted a Rabies Awareness Lecture. Experts shared crucial information on how to prevent and control the spread of rabies within communities. The lecture emphasized the importance of regular vaccination and responsible pet ownership.
Rabies remains a serious public health concern in many Philippine provinces. By educating pet owners, Davao de Oro takes proactive steps to eliminate the disease. The lecture complemented the practical services offered, ensuring that knowledge and action went hand in hand.
Awards and Celebration
Organizers handed out special awards to recognize standout participants. Categories included First Across the Line, Speedy Paws, and Youngest Walker. The Golden Paw award honored the oldest dog in the run, celebrating senior pets.
Fun categories like Best Costume, Best Look-Alike, and Waggiest Tail brought laughter and joy. The Best Talent Showcase allowed talented dogs to demonstrate their unique skills. These lighthearted awards underscored the bond between fur parents and their beloved companions.
A Community United for Animal Welfare
The Pet Run brought together pet lovers from across the province. Families, friends, and neighbors gathered to celebrate their shared love for dogs. The event strengthened community ties while promoting a serious public health message.
By combining fun and education, Davao de Oro created a model for other provinces to follow. The Provincial Government's commitment to animal welfare and disease prevention shines through this initiative. With continued efforts, rabies-free communities become an achievable goal.
