Responsible pet ownership is not only about providing food and shelter—it also means ensuring that animals receive proper healthcare. In Taguig City, the Pet Caravan initiative is helping make veterinary services more accessible by bringing free animal healthcare directly to local communities. On August 24, the Office of the City Veterinarian brought its services to Barangay Ligid-Tipas, serving residents from both Ligid-Tipas and Palingon-Tipas. The community-based program provided pet owners with convenient access to essential veterinary care without the need to travel far for treatment.
Comprehensive Veterinary Services for Local Pets
The Pet Caravan offered a wide range of free services designed to address different aspects of animal health. During the outreach, veterinary personnel conducted medical consultations for 177 pets, while 268 animals received deworming treatments and vitamin supplements. Rabies prevention was also a major component of the program, with 260 animals vaccinated against rabies. The vaccination effort supports the city's broader goal of protecting both animals and residents from the risks associated with rabies.
Promoting Responsible Pet Population Management
Beyond preventive healthcare, the caravan also addressed responsible animal population management. Veterinary teams performed spay and neuter procedures on 150 pets, helping pet owners manage reproduction and potentially reduce the number of unwanted animals in the community. The program also provided microchip implantation for 22 animals, giving pet owners an additional tool for permanent identification and responsible pet management.
Making Continued Care More Accessible
Pet healthcare does not end after a consultation or vaccination. To help owners continue caring for their animals at home, an on-site veterinary pharmacy assisted 83 pet owners with complimentary medications and supplements. This additional service demonstrates how the Pet Caravan goes beyond one-time treatment by helping families maintain their pets' health even after the outreach activity.
