MAKATI CITY — Hundreds of Makati residents received free medical consultations, laboratory tests, health screenings, and medicines at the Makati Coliseum on June 23, as the national government's "Lab for All: Laboratoryo, Konsulta, at Gamot Para sa Lahat" program made its stop in the city. This initiative brought essential health and government services directly to communities, removing the cost and logistical barriers that often prevent residents from seeking care. The city government lauded the initiative for complementing Makati's existing universal health programs and expressed intent to further expand its own localized mobile health initiatives.
Comprehensive Health Services for Residents
The caravan offered a comprehensive diagnostic suite, ranging from maternal services like ultrasounds and fetal Doppler tracking to vital screenings including ECGs for adults aged 35 and older, blood chemistry panels, chest X-rays, and urinalysis. Residents also received free medical consultations and medicines sufficient for 15 days. The main event was preceded by pre-event medical missions in Barangay Valenzuela (June 19), Barangay Carmona (June 20), and Barangay Guadalupe Viejo (June 21), ensuring broader reach across the city.
A Blueprint for Local Government Healthcare
City officials emphasized that preventive healthcare is one of the most effective ways to build healthier communities. By providing free consultations, diagnostic services, and medicines, the program empowers residents to detect health concerns early and seek timely treatment. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the country's healthcare system in line with Republic Act No. 11223, or the Universal Health Care Act, which guarantees equitable access to quality health services for all Filipinos.
A Lasting Impact
The program's success in Makati has reinforced the city's dedication to accessible healthcare, with the local government planning to integrate the one-stop caravan model into its existing community medical missions. Alongside medical care, the caravan served as a multi-agency platform for holistic public service, distributing OWWA "Balik Pinas! Balik Hanapbuhay!" livelihood grants to six returning overseas Filipino workers. The event also featured free legal assistance booths and business mentoring sessions hosted by Go Negosyo and the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program for local micro-entrepreneurs, while the Food and Drug Administration set up localized help desks. This whole-of-government approach demonstrates how essential services can be brought directly to the doorsteps of the communities that need them most.
