When Poems Leave the Page
GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Poetry usually asks readers to slow down and imagine, but the GenSan exhibit gives those words a physical presence that visitors can encounter outside a traditional book. More than 20 poems are displayed at Gensan Psych Mental Hub throughout September, while eight featured poets participated in readings during the opening program. The exhibit is being presented in collaboration with the Dadiangas Writers Society and Rhymes of PEG, bringing different parts of the local literary community into one creative space. By turning poems into an exhibition, the project offers residents another way to discover the writers and ideas emerging from General Santos City.
A Bigger Stage for Local Voices
The exhibit also gives individual writers an opportunity to see their work presented in a setting designed for public appreciation rather than private reading. MindaNews reported that featured poet Melbert Agapay described the display of his work as a proud moment, particularly because he had long hoped his literary pieces could be encountered by people beyond himself. That sentiment captures what makes the project interesting: the poems are not simply being published, they are being placed where readers can physically encounter them. For General Santos City's creative community, that creates another doorway between writers and audiences who may not normally attend literary events.

The month-long showcase could also encourage more literary activities in the city, according to Bella Coronel, founder of the Dadiangas Writers Society, who said the exhibit could open possibilities for similar events in General Santos City. That makes the project notable not because it promises a specific economic or cultural outcome, but because it creates an actual venue for local writing to be shared. The exhibit's September run gives residents time to encounter poetry in an unexpected setting while allowing participating writers to present their work through both print and performance. In that sense, GenSan's latest literary showcase adds another colorful layer to the city's creative life.
