More Than Galleries: How Taguig Keeps History Alive Through Its Heritage Museums

In Taguig, museums are treated as more than buildings — they are treated as memory, courage, and a shared identity of the community. In celebration of National Museums and Galleries Month, the city through the Tourism and Trade Office - Taguig City and Think Big Taguig launches Part 1 of its museum guide series featuring 5 History & Heritage Museums in Taguig worth visiting.

What started as a simple guide has grown into a meaningful initiative in our Probinsyudad. The series invites residents and visitors to discover places right here in Taguig that tell stories of wartime experiences, courage, and sacrifice, helping us remember the people and events that shaped our history.

Beyond One Story: A Journey Through Taguig's Wartime Legacy

Taguig's heritage is rooted in stories of bravery from past wars. At McKinley Road, Fort Bonifacio, the *01 Manila American Cemetery & Memorial Visitor's Center* stands as a solemn place of remembrance for those who served during World War II, where vast memorial grounds and a visitor center preserve stories of sacrifice and service — FREE admission, no advance booking, just bring a valid photo ID, open Daily 9AM-5PM, last admission 4:45PM, closed December 25 and January 1.

Continuing that legacy, at Philippine-Korea Friendship Center, Bayani Road, the *02 PEFTOK Korean War Memorial Hall and Museum* discovers the story of the 7,420 Filipino soldiers who served in the Korean War. Dedicated to the Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (PEFTOK), this museum preserves the courage, service, and sacrifices of Filipino troops who fought far from home — FREE admission, Monday to Saturday 8AM-5PM.

Honoring Modern Courage: Service Beyond the Battlefield

Beyond wartime history, Taguig also honors the courage of those who protect the nation today. At Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, the *03 Special Action Force (SAF) Museum* honors the courage and service of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force, where visitors can learn about the legacy of the SAF through its memorials, including the SAF 44 Memorial and Black Beret Monument — a tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service, bring a valid government-issued ID and secure clearance at the camp gate.

At Veterans Center, Veterans Road, the *04 Philippine Veterans Museum* remembers the people behind the nation's history, discovering stories of Filipino veterans and the sacrifices made in defense of the country — a chance to reflect on the people and experiences behind the freedoms we value today, Admission: Adults P75, Students P50, FREE for war veterans and relatives with valid proof, Monday to Friday 8AM-4PM, closed for lunch. And at Headquarters Philippine Army, MGen. Adalem Street, Fort Bonifacio, the *05 Philippine Army Museum* explores the history, traditions, and service of the Philippine Army, from military heritage to artifacts that tell stories of milestones and experiences that shaped the Army — FREE for uniformed personnel, veterans, retirees and organized CMT/ROTC/NSTP cadets, P20 for students, children, teachers, seniors, PWDs and military dependents, P30 for other civilian and foreign visitors, Monday to Friday 9AM-4PM, weekends by appointment, bring a valid ID, located inside a secure military facility.

More Than a Visit: Why These Museums Matter Today

The message — “Discover Our Probinsyudad” — is simple, but the real story is what it represents: a city that values every hero, whether from World War II, the Korean War, or modern service, and believes that by remembering their stories, we shape a more grateful future.

In Taguig, the celebration of National Museums and Galleries Month is a celebration of people. Whether you're visiting out of curiosity or looking to learn something new, these destinations offer a meaningful way to spend time exploring the past. Admission varies by destination, with some offering free entry, so check their visiting guidelines before your visit.
