ILOILO CITY — A new gallery dedicated to the Philippine Navy was officially opened on October 26, 2026, at the NHCP Museum of Philippine Maritime History. The significant event highlighted the enduring maritime legacy of the country and the remarkable contributions of Ilonggo leaders to the naval force.

Mayor Raisa Treñas graced the ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Q. Ezpeleta, the incumbent Flag Officer in Command. They were warmly joined by retired Vice Admiral Alexander P. Pama, NHCP Historic Sites and Education Division Chief Gina C. Batuhan, and other prominent local officials.

Showcasing Naval Heritage and Pride

The newly unveiled gallery features a comprehensive collection of naval artifacts and historical records. Visitors can deeply explore the rich history of the Navy, highlighted by a dedicated display of photographs showcasing prominent Ilonggos who have led the institution through the decades.

Furthermore, the exhibit proudly displays detailed miniatures of two highly significant vessels: the BRP Antonio Luna and the BRP Iloilo. Various deactivated ammunition and official Navy uniforms are also meticulously arranged on display, offering a vivid and immersive glimpse into the daily life of sailors.

A Tribute to Ilonggo Excellence

The establishment of this gallery serves as a powerful and lasting tribute to the region's deep, intrinsic connection to the sea. Organizing this initiative is a direct contribution to the ongoing Museums and Galleries Month celebration, which proudly carries the meaningful theme, “Kasaysayang Nag-uugnay.”

This highly collaborative effort between the Philippine Navy, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, and the Iloilo City Government coincides perfectly with the 93rd anniversary of the NHCP. It firmly reinforces the city's vital role as a primary custodian of the nation's maritime and historical narrative.

A Must-Visit Cultural Destination

For both domestic and foreign tourists, alongside passionate local history enthusiasts, the museum offers a fascinating educational experience. The gallery significantly enriches the cultural landscape of Iloilo City, adding another compelling reason for travelers to explore the province's vibrant heritage sites.

By integrating military history with accessible public education, the museum fosters a deeper appreciation for the country's sovereignty and maritime security. It stands as a proud testament to the bravery of Filipino seafarers and the strategic importance of Iloilo in protecting Philippine waters.

The newly opened gallery and the entire museum are open to the public from Tuesdays to Sundays, between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Local officials encourage students, families, and visitors to take advantage of this accessible cultural space to learn more about seafaring roots.
