GenSan Gets a Meaningful Place on the Running Calendar
GENERAL SANTOS CITY - General Santos City will have its own place on the 2026 Angat Bayanihan Run calendar when the Mindanao leg arrives on November 29. The announcement was made after the initiative’s July 19 opening event in Makati, which drew more than 8,000 participants. Organizers said the fundraising activity supports community-driven programs while encouraging volunteerism and bayanihan. The planned General Santos stop therefore offers something different from an ordinary running event. It connects recreation with a broader community purpose. For residents who enjoy running, walking, or simply joining civic activities, the scheduled event provides another opportunity to participate in something that extends beyond competition and places attention on helping communities.
A Race With More Than a Finish Line
The concept behind the event gives the General Santos leg an interesting character. Angat Buhay said proceeds from the run support programs involving disaster response, rehabilitation, community livelihood, public health, education, and grassroots initiatives. The organization also reported that volunteers continued assisting communities affected by earthquakes in General Santos City, Davao, and Sarangani. That background gives the upcoming GenSan event a direct connection to community service, although it would be inaccurate to claim that the November run itself has already raised funds for the city. What is confirmed is that General Santos has been selected as one of three provincial venues scheduled for the 2026 expansion.
An Invitation for GenSan’s Community Spirit
The scheduled event could also create a different kind of gathering in General Santos: one where runners, families, volunteers, organizations, and supporters meet around a shared charitable purpose. Angat Buhay has said its broader goal is to expand the run beyond Metro Manila and eventually reach more provinces. The organization announced Naga for August 16, Iloilo for October 18, and General Santos for November 29. For the city, being included in that provincial schedule gives residents an opportunity to take part in a nationwide volunteer initiative without leaving Mindanao. The story is ultimately less about the race itself and more about making participation in community causes accessible and enjoyable.
