Pet owners in Barangay Wawa, Taguig City, gained access to essential animal healthcare services through a Pet Caravan designed to promote animal welfare and public safety. The initiative brought veterinary assistance closer to communities in Wawa, Bambang, and Tuktukan, helping residents care for their beloved pets without the added burden of service costs. Through the Office of the City Veterinarian, the program provided health examinations, preventive treatments, vaccinations, microchipping, and free spay-and-neuter services. The initiative highlights Taguig’s continuing efforts to make animal healthcare more accessible while supporting responsible pet ownership across the city.
Hundreds of Animals Receive Veterinary Assistance
The Pet Caravan provided health examinations for 137 companion animals and preventive care, including deworming treatments and vitamin supplementation, to 91 pets. These services help pet owners monitor their animals’ health and address basic healthcare needs.
The veterinary team also administered anti-rabies vaccinations to 83 animals and implanted identification microchips in 19 pets. These measures support rabies prevention, improve pet identification, and contribute to safer communities for both residents and animals.
Free Spay-and-Neuter Services Support Animal Welfare
A key part of the initiative was the completion of 114 free spay-and-neuter operations. These procedures help manage the local animal population humanely while supporting efforts to reduce the number of unwanted and stray animals. The caravan also provided an on-site mobile pharmacy that supplied essential medications and wellness vitamins directly to 57 pet owners for post-caravan treatment. By bringing these services into the community, the program helped residents access additional support for their pets’ ongoing care.
Taguig Strengthens Community-Based Animal Healthcare
The Pet Caravan reflects Taguig City’s commitment to delivering accessible veterinary services directly to barangays. Vice Mayor Arvin Ian Alit emphasized the importance of the initiative and encouraged residents to value programs that provide assistance for animals.
By combining preventive healthcare, vaccination, microchipping, and population management services, the initiative supports responsible pet ownership and public health. Bringing veterinary care closer to residents also helps strengthen awareness of the importance of keeping companion animals healthy and properly cared for.
