Dumaguete City officially opened Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 on August 9, bringing young people together for a celebration centered on unity, leadership, talent, and community involvement. Organized by the City Government of Dumaguete through LYDO Dumaguete, LYDC, and SK Pederasyon, the opening program highlighted the important role of young people in shaping the city's future.
A Celebration of Youth Leadership
The event brought together young participants from different communities, creating an opportunity for them to connect, participate, and become more involved in local activities.
Youth leadership remains an important part of community development, and events such as Linggo ng Kabataan provide young people with spaces where they can express their ideas, develop confidence, and take part in activities that benefit their communities.
Opening the Celebration With Faith
The program began with a Holy Mass, adding a spiritual element to the celebration and bringing participants together before the day's activities. The gathering reflected the city's effort to create a meaningful opening for the weeklong youth celebration while emphasizing values that can guide young people in their roles within the community.
Young Talent Takes Center Stage
One of the highlights of the opening program was the participation of young performers.
Youth performances added energy to the event and gave participants an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of fellow young people, community members, and city officials. Beyond entertainment, these performances demonstrated the creativity and confidence of Dumaguete's younger generation.
