When the Covered Court Becomes a Classroom

OZAMIZ CITY - The Lipong Covered Court took on a different role on October 6 as mothers from six nearby barangays gathered for the Asenso DOST-PINOY activity. The cluster included Liposong, Capucao C, Mentering, Pantaon, Gotocan Diot, and Calabayan, giving the training a wider reach than a single-barangay activity. Its focus on working moms and first-time moms also makes the session especially relevant to women navigating new or demanding stages of family life. The activity was presented through the community's own venue, putting the learning session within easier reach of participating mothers.

DOST-PINOY Puts Nutrition Lessons Into Everyday Context

DOST-PINOY is not a new name in Ozamiz's nutrition work. The National Nutrition Council has previously described Asenso DOST-PINOY in Ozamiz City as a nutrition-education component of the DOST Malnutrition Reduction Program, implemented alongside supplemental feeding and supported by different agencies and resource persons. The broader DOST-PINOY approach covers subjects such as basic nutrition, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, maternal nutrition, meal planning, safe food preparation, and vegetable gardening. That background gives the October training a practical character: its lessons are connected to decisions mothers make at home, rather than being limited to a one-day event.

Six Barangays, One Shared Conversation

There is something useful about bringing mothers from several communities into one learning activity. Working mothers can have schedules that make it difficult to seek information separately, while first-time mothers may have questions that are unfamiliar to them simply because they are entering motherhood for the first time. A cluster-based session creates a space where information can be shared among participants from Liposong, Capucao C, Mentering, Pantaon, Gotocan Diot, and Calabayan. For Ozamiz, the October 6 training offers a fresh community story: science-based nutrition education meeting mothers where their everyday lives actually happen.
