PHILIPPINES — The historic Walled City of Intramuros is now welcoming photographers, camera enthusiasts, and tourists to capture its centuries-old beauty through a new policy allowing professional cameras for personal and souvenir photography without a permit.

A New Era for Heritage Tourism

This initiative, led by the Intramuros Administration in partnership with CameraHaus, aims to make heritage photography significantly more accessible. It encourages locals and travelers to share the rich historical stories of Intramuros through their own creative lenses.

By removing the bureaucratic hurdle of securing permits, the Walled City becomes an even more attractive destination for visual artists and casual tourists alike. This directly boosts foot traffic, supporting local businesses, cafes, and transport services operating within the historic district.

Balancing Access and Preservation

While the permit requirement is waived, photographers must still strictly observe established site guidelines. Restrictions on flash photography remain in specific areas to protect the fragile historic structures and invaluable museum collections from light damage.

Visitors are reminded that capturing the beauty of the destination comes with the responsibility of preserving it. Respecting these boundaries ensures that the centuries-old architecture remains intact for future generations of tourists to explore and admire.

The "Intramuros Reframed" Photowalk

To officially launch this new chapter, CameraHaus, alongside the Department of Tourism and IA, held its inaugural Street Summit on October 24. The event brought together over 300 photographers, content creators, and visual artists for an exciting community photowalk.

Carrying the theme "Intramuros Reframed," the summit encouraged participants to see the iconic Walled City through fresh eyes. Photographers explored lesser-known corners, highlighting hidden architectural gems and breathing new life into familiar historical landmarks.

The massive turnout demonstrated the immense passion for visual storytelling in the country. Attendees networked, shared techniques, and captured stunning imagery that will undoubtedly flood social media, serving as powerful, user-generated promotional content for the historic site.

Bolstering National Pride and Tourism

The DOT continues to strongly support initiatives that advance greater appreciation of the Philippines' cultural heritage. By merging creative hobbies with historical exploration, the government fosters a deeper connection between modern Filipinos and their rich ancestral roots.

This synergy between government agencies and private partners proves highly effective in modernizing how heritage sites are experienced. It transforms passive sightseeing into an active, engaging pursuit, driving sustainable tourism growth and reinforcing the country's position as a top cultural destination.
