The Archdiocese of San Fernando Pampanga has officially launched the 70th Canonical Coronation anniversary pilgrimage of the Virgen de los Remedios . The venerable images are visiting the parishes of the St. John Marie Vianney Vicariate—spanning Bacolor and the City of San Fernando—before culminating on the Solemn Feast of September 8.

Pilgrimage Itinerary: From Bacolor to San Fernando

The sacred images of the Virgen de los Remedios—the principal patroness of Pampanga—and the Santo Cristo del Perdón y Caridad began their vicariate pilgrimage at San Isidro Labrador Parish in Bacolor on July 6, 2026 . The pilgrimage is focused on the parishes of the St. John Marie Vianney Vicariate, which covers the towns of Bacolor and the City of San Fernando .

According to the Archdiocese of San Fernando, the images will remain in Bacolor until August 3, visiting various parishes within the vicariate before continuing their journey through San Fernando. The pilgrimage will culminate in the Solemn Feast on September 8, the feast day of the Virgen de los Remedios, which also marks the 70th anniversary of her canonical coronation.

A Devotion Rooted in History and Charity

The pilgrimage is intrinsically linked to the Cruzada de Penitencia y Caridad, a spiritual movement founded in 1952 by Bishop César María Guerrero. The Cruzada combines devotion to the Virgen de los Remedios and the Santo Cristo del Perdón y Caridad with the practice of lamac—the collection and distribution of food and aid to the poor . The pilgrimage, which brings the images to parishes throughout the archdiocese, is the primary way the Cruzada is made tangible, fostering community reconciliation and addressing social inequalities through faith and charity.

The canonical coronation of the Virgen de los Remedios was granted by Pope Pius XII in 1956, and the 70th anniversary has been a significant celebration for the archdiocese, which is the metropolitan see for the ecclesiastical province covering Pampanga, Bataan, Zambales, and Tarlac . The images are currently under the care of the Archdiocese of San Fernando, led by Archbishop Florentino G. Lavarias .

Devotees are warmly welcomed to attend masses and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation during the pilgrimage stops. The faithful can also bring offerings for charity.
