The Angeles City Government, in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), launched the Community Tour Guiding Program for Senior Citizens on July 7, 2026. Around 30 older residents from the city participated in the first-ever program of its kind in Central Luzon, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to serve as community tour guides and share the city's rich history, culture, and heritage sites with visitors.

Empowering Seniors as Custodians of Heritage

The program, held at the Angeles City Library and Information Center, is part of the city's broader vision of "tourism with a heart," an inclusive approach that places the community at the center of its tourism strategy . Angeles City Tourism Officer Louie Lazatin previously emphasized that the city's tourism programs are designed to engage marginalized sectors including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, and Aeta communities .

This initiative aims to keep senior citizens actively involved in the community while recognizing their role as custodians of the city's cultural heritage and tourism . The Angeles City Government, under Mayor Carmelo "Jon" Lazatin II, remains committed to programs that promote the welfare and active participation of senior citizens while supporting the continued growth of local tourism . The training includes classroom learning, mock tours, and practical guiding, culminating in a certification for participants who complete the requirements.

A Growing Network of Senior Tour Guides

The launch in Angeles follows similar program implementations in Intramuros, Manila, and Vigan City, demonstrating the growing nationwide commitment to inclusive tourism initiatives. The first batch of certified senior tour guides from Angeles City successfully completed their training and graduated in mid-July 2026, making them eligible to share the city's heritage sites with visitors . This initiative builds on the city's recent efforts to enhance tourism offerings, including guided Heritage Tours covering Pamintuan Mansion, Museo ning Angeles, the Culinarium, and Holy Rosary Parish Church—all located in the city's Heritage District .
