Top executives from the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and LIPAD Corporation recently met with newly appointed Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay to align initiatives for a world-class tourism ecosystem in Central and Northern Luzon. The strategic collaboration focuses on leveraging BCDA-managed ecozones and Clark International Airport (CRK) to drive investment, connectivity, and regional growth. This marks a significant step in positioning Clark as the premier gateway for the region.

Upgrading Clark International Airport: A Gateway to the Region

The partnership aims to secure CRK's role as the main entry hub for Northern and Central Luzon. Central to this vision are plans for a second runway at the airport, which will significantly expand flight capacities and improve landing infrastructure, catering to the growing number of international and domestic flights . A direct pedestrian bridge is also planned to link the terminal directly to the future North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) station . This seamless connectivity will allow travelers to move swiftly from the airport to key business districts, making Clark a more accessible and attractive destination.

LIPAD Corporation, the private operator of CRK, is also focused on expanding air connectivity by increasing international and domestic flight options . This aligns with efforts to attract more airlines and boost passenger traffic, solidifying Clark's status as a premier aviation hub. By reducing travel friction between key urban centers and the airport, the infrastructure upgrades are expected to drive significant economic activity and investment in the region.

A Unified Push for Destination Marketing and Regional Growth

Beyond infrastructure, the meeting focused on implementing the landmark partnership forged by BCDA and the DOT earlier this year. The agreement is expected to pave the way for joint destination marketing, tourism development, and destination management initiatives across BCDA properties . This means unified travel itineraries across various Luzon destinations, making it easier for tourists to explore the diverse attractions of Central and Northern Luzon.

Officials are also eyeing the rising potential of sports and golf tourism by promoting premium facilities in Clark and New Clark City . This coordinated approach, supported by BCDA President and CEO Joshua M. Bingcang and LIPAD President Noel F. Manankil, aims to harness the region's assets and position Central and Northern Luzon as a premier destination for both tourism and investment . They also reaffirmed their commitment to implementing sustainable tourism standards across ecozones, ensuring that growth is both responsible and enduring .
