SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA - The City Government of San Fernando, through its City Tourism Office and the Department of Tourism Region III, conducted an Orientation on Halal and Muslim-Friendly Tourism during the last week of August 2026 at the Heroes Hall. The initiative aims to equip local tourism stakeholders and frontliners with the knowledge to provide respectful, appropriate, and culturally sensitive services to Muslim tourists. The training is part of the city's broader commitment to positioning itself as a diverse and inclusive destination, building on its nomination for the 2026 World Travel Awards as Asia's Leading Cultural City Destination.
What the Orientation Covered
The orientation highlighted several key areas of development to help participants understand the importance of Halal and Muslim-friendly tourism in the Philippines. Discussions covered the current state of global and local Halal tourism markets, alongside career opportunities in Halal hospitality. Participants also learned about proper Halal food and beverage management, cultural sensitivity, and appropriate guest relations, ensuring that local frontliners are equipped to accommodate the specific needs of Muslim travelers. Government standards and regulatory frameworks for Muslim-friendly tourism were clearly outlined, providing a solid foundation for stakeholders to implement these practices in their respective businesses.
A Step Toward a More Inclusive Fernandino Tourism
The event was led and supported by Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag, resource speaker John Henry Nueva, Muslim City Coordinator Mark Solaiman, and Acting City Tourism Officer Emmalyn Tuazon, who all emphasized making the city a more inclusive, diverse, and economically vibrant destination. This orientation is part of a series of capacity-building initiatives by the City Tourism Office, which has previously conducted barangay tourism planning workshops to empower communities and strengthen local tourism as a driver of progress .
