CABATUAN, Iloilo — Two Grade 12 students from Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School (CNCHS) have made their town and country proud on the international stage. Edmerl Chris Tiongson and Kenaz Shem Quiñanola received an Excellence Award at the World Robot Contest (WRC) 2026 Malaysia Championship, held from August 29 to 30, 2026, at Universiti Tenaga Nasional.

A Triumph of Skill and Teamwork

The Excellence Award is a prestigious recognition reserved for teams demonstrating outstanding technical design, problem-solving abilities, and exceptional teamwork. The two students earned this honor in the Upper Secondary Category during the highly competitive Super AI Super Track Competition. Their success highlights the quality of robotics education in Iloilo's public schools.

The students were accompanied by their dedicated coaches, Daniel Ferro and Ray-Ann Legario. Their guidance was instrumental in preparing the students for the challenges of international competition. The collaboration between students and mentors showcases the power of supportive learning environments.

The Road to Malaysia

Tiongson and Quiñanola earned the right to compete in Malaysia after an impressive finish at the national level. They placed second runner-up in the TechQuest National Robotics Challenge for Academia held earlier this year in Makati. This podium finish earned them the privilege of representing the Philippines in the international arena.

The top three teams from the national competition were sent to different international contests. The champion went to China, the first runner-up to Thailand, and the second runner-up—our Cabatuan students—to Malaysia. This system ensures that Filipino talent is showcased across various global platforms.

Mastering Autonomous Robotics

The Super AI Super Track is a rigorous test of robotics programming and autonomous operation. Participants must program and troubleshoot their robots to navigate a prescribed course and complete designated missions under strict time limits. The competition demands precision, creativity, and the ability to perform under pressure.

The Excellence Award validates the students' ability to excel in this demanding environment. They demonstrated not just technical skill but also the resilience needed to solve complex problems in real-time. Their performance serves as an inspiration to other young innovators in the region.

A Legacy of Excellence

Beyond the robotics arena, CNCHS also received the Multiply the Good Award during the national competition. This award recognized an entry highlighting how robotics had positively influenced the students' lives and aspirations. It underscores the transformative power of technology education in shaping young minds.

The achievements of Tiongson and Quiñanola mark a significant milestone for their school and community. Their journey from national podium to international recognition demonstrates that talent thrives when given the right support. They have brought honor to Cabatuan, Iloilo, and the entire nation.
