Red Ribbon was established in 1979 by Amalia Hizon Mercado, her husband Renato Mercado, and their five children as a small cake shop along Timog Avenue in Quezon City. It became famous for celebration cakes such as the Black Forest and Ube Cake and expanded nationwide. Jollibee Foods Corporation fully acquired Red Ribbon in 2005, and it now operates over 500 stores.
