Bacolod Chosen for the New PSHS Campus
BACOLOD - Bacolod City has officially been selected as the site of the Philippine Science High School–Negros Island Region Campus, following a year-long assessment of potential locations across the region. The proposed school will be established on a 9.23-hectare property in Barangay Granada, making it the first PSHS campus serving the newly established Negros Island Region. The selection is expected to strengthen access to specialized STEM education for academically gifted students in Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and surrounding areas.
A Strategic Location for Science Education
The selection process began in September 2025 and continued through July 2026, with potential sites evaluated according to several technical and practical considerations. These included accessibility, property size, terrain, exposure to natural hazards, availability of utilities, proximity to higher education and research institutions, and the area's potential for long-term development. The Bacolod property emerged as the preferred location because of its accessibility, suitable land configuration, available space, and potential to support a large educational campus.
City Government Supports Campus Development
Bacolod City is also expected to play an important role in making the project possible. The local government has committed to donating the property for the campus while supporting the construction of a dedicated access road and providing interim facilities as the school is developed. These commitments demonstrate the city's support for expanding advanced educational opportunities and strengthening its position as a center for learning and innovation in the region.
