Empowering Farmers Through Urban Agriculture
BACOLOD - More than 80 farmers in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City participated in a training and seminar focused on promoting urban farming and strengthening their agricultural skills. The initiative was conducted in partnership with the 79th Infantry Battalion and the City Agriculture Office, providing participants with practical knowledge that can help them develop productive farming activities within their communities. The program highlights the potential of urban agriculture to provide additional sources of food and livelihood for local families.
Providing Tools and Resources for Livelihood Projects
As part of the initiative, the participating farmers also received farm tools, fertilizer, and crop seeds to support their agricultural activities and encourage the development of additional livelihood projects. Providing both training and basic farming resources can help participants apply the knowledge they gained while improving their capacity to produce crops. The assistance also creates opportunities for residents to become more involved in community-based agriculture and make productive use of available spaces.
Strengthening Food Security and Community Resilience
The program forms part of the initiatives under the leadership of Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya to strengthen the city's food security efforts while supporting peace and order in local communities. By encouraging residents to participate in productive livelihood activities, urban farming can contribute to a more resilient community and provide families with additional sources of food and income.
