Bringing Bacolod’s Story to Life Through Technology

BACOLOD - Bacolod City is set to introduce a new way of experiencing its history, culture, heritage, and tourism identity through an augmented reality (AR) mural. The project, developed in partnership with La Consolacion College (LCC) Bacolod, will be unveiled at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds on September 14 as part of the flagship activities of Bacolod Tourism Week 2026. The initiative combines traditional visual art with digital technology, creating an interactive experience that allows visitors to discover more about the city through their mobile devices.

Turning a Mural Into an Interactive Experience

Unlike a traditional mural that visitors simply view, the AR installation will allow people to interact with the artwork using supported smartphones and other mobile devices. By scanning the mural or an accompanying QR code, viewers can access digital elements such as animations, 3D features, videos, and sounds that complement the physical artwork. This approach gives visitors a more engaging way to explore Bacolod’s identity while demonstrating how technology can be used to make cultural and tourism experiences more accessible and exciting.

Strengthening Bacolod’s Modern Tourism Identity

Mayor Greg Gasataya expressed appreciation to LCC-Bacolod and its partners for contributing to tourism promotion, visitor experience, innovation, and opportunities for local enterprises. The AR mural represents Bacolod’s effort to connect its cultural heritage with modern technology, giving residents and visitors another way to learn about the city. By combining art, storytelling, digital innovation, and tourism, the project can help present Bacolod as a destination that values its roots while embracing new ways of sharing its identity with a wider audience.
