A Different Kind of Bohol Hills
BOHOL - The Alicia Panoramic Park is located in Barangay Cambaol and features the Binabaje Hills, which rise to around 400 meters above sea level. Unlike the more familiar Chocolate Hills landscape, these hills are largely covered in tropical perennial grasses commonly known as cogon. The open vegetation gives the area a wide, uninterrupted appearance, making the landscape feel more like a natural highland viewpoint than a conventional tourist park. It is a destination where the journey upward is an important part of the experience.
The Landscape Has a Geological Story
Alicia is also part of Bohol’s UNESCO Global Geopark story, with the provincial tourism office listing both Alicia Panoramic Park and the nearby Alicia Schist among the province’s geosites. The municipality’s geology includes formations shaped over long periods by natural processes, giving the eastern part of Bohol characteristics that differ from the island’s more familiar limestone scenery. Visitors do not need to be geology enthusiasts to appreciate the difference; the exposed landscape makes it visible in a very straightforward way. A trip here can therefore combine outdoor recreation with a glimpse into the geological diversity of the province.
Pair the Hills With a Cave Adventure
Alicia offers another interesting stop for travelers who want to extend their visit: Princess Manan-aw Cave, part of the Cagongcagong Cave System. The official provincial tourism page notes that the system contains more than 20 caves, while Princess Manan-aw itself extends for about 195 meters. Its formation is linked to the long-term action of rainwater and groundwater on limestone. Combining the panoramic hills with a cave experience gives visitors a fuller reason to explore Alicia instead of treating it as a single-photo destination.
