BOHOL - Two-time world champion Sivenathi Nontshinga has arrived in Bohol ahead of his highly anticipated International Boxing Federation (IBF) light-flyweight title eliminator this weekend. The 27-year-old South African boxer landed at the Bohol-Panglao International Airport on September 6 together with his trainers, Bernie Pailman and Colin Nathan. His arrival adds international attention to Bohol as the province prepares to host a major boxing event featuring fighters from the Philippines and abroad.
Nontshinga and Suganob Set for a High-Stakes Rematch
Nontshinga will face Filipino boxer Regie Suganob for the No. 1 spot in the IBF light-flyweight division. Their matchup carries additional significance because the two fighters previously met in a 2023 world title fight in South Africa, where Nontshinga successfully defended his IBF light-flyweight championship by unanimous decision. Nontshinga enters the bout with a 14-2 record and 11 knockouts, while Suganob has built an 18-1 record with seven knockouts and is riding a five-fight winning streak.
Kumong Bol-anon XXVI Brings International Boxing to Bohol
The fight will headline PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions’ “Kumong Bol-anon XXVI” on September 12 at the Bohol Wisdom School Gymnasium in Tagbilaran City. The winner of the eliminator will earn an opportunity to challenge for the IBF light-flyweight championship, currently held by Japanese boxer Masamichi Yabuki. The card will also feature three other IBF regional title bouts involving Filipino and international fighters, giving Bohol boxing fans a full day of competitive action and further highlighting the province as a venue capable of hosting major sporting events.
