Music Opens Trinidad’s Anniversary Celebration
BOHOL - The 79th Town Anniversary celebration of Trinidad, Bohol began on a distinctly Filipino note with the opening of a Rondalla Training Workshop. The activity formally started with a rendition of the Philippine National Anthem performed by Sir John Rey and his team, setting the tone for a day centered on music, learning, and cultural appreciation. More than a musical activity, the workshop provides an opportunity for participants to become familiar with the instruments and traditions associated with the Filipino rondalla. The gathering also reflects the town’s effort to incorporate cultural activities into its anniversary celebration and give residents meaningful ways to connect with their heritage.
Keeping Filipino Musical Traditions Alive
Rondalla music has long been associated with Filipino cultural expression, particularly through ensembles featuring traditional string instruments. Workshops such as the one held in Trinidad can help introduce younger participants to this musical tradition while giving experienced musicians an avenue to share their knowledge and skills. The training also demonstrates how local celebrations can become platforms for cultural education. By learning music together, participants are not only developing their musical abilities but also gaining a deeper appreciation of traditions that have been passed from one generation to another.
Celebrating Roots Through Community
The workshop carries a message that goes beyond music: preserving heritage begins with encouraging communities to actively participate in their own traditions. Trinidad’s anniversary celebration provides an opportunity for residents to recognize the town’s history while looking toward the future. With its emphasis on culture, education, and community participation, the Rondalla Training Workshop embodies the anniversary message, “Pagsaulog sa Kagikan, Garbo sa Katawhan!”—a celebration of the town’s roots and the people who continue to carry its traditions forward.
