CEBU — The Province of Cebu and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will convene the Cebu Energy Summit 2026 on October 12 at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol. The event runs from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, gathering stakeholders to address the province's pressing energy challenges.
A Critical Conversation for Cebu's Future
Cebu's energy future affects every business, industry, and community across the province. The summit carries the rallying call "Let's Talk. Let's Solve. Let's Power Cebu Forward," inviting government officials, energy companies, business leaders, and investors to work toward a more reliable, resilient, and sustainable power future.
The event comes amid recurring power supply alerts and rotational brownouts that have threatened Cebu's economic momentum. The Visayas grid recorded numerous yellow and red alerts from January to September 2026, attributed to unavailable generating units and limited power imports. Some areas experienced brownouts lasting up to 2.5 hours.
The Business Sector Sounds the Alarm
The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been vocal about the urgency of the situation. CCCI President Regan King stressed that businesses need a dependable electricity supply to remain competitive, particularly as Cebu continues to attract investments and expand its economy.
"The business sector cannot build a more competitive Cebu economy on an unreliable power supply," King said. He emphasized the need for additional baseload power and stronger transmission infrastructure. The chamber has called for synergy among the Department of Energy, Energy Regulatory Commission, and National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
A Platform for Solutions and Collaboration
The summit provides a venue for stakeholders to discuss both immediate power needs and longer-term energy plans. Participants will explore solutions aimed at strengthening the Visayas power system and making electricity costs more predictable for businesses and consumers.
The event organized by the Province of Cebu through Governor Pamela Baricuatro, follows directives for local power utilities and electric cooperatives to submit contingency plans. These measures aim to mitigate the impact of supply shortages while longer-term projects are developed.
Toward a Sustainable Energy Future
Cebu has been pursuing renewable energy projects to address its growing demand. These include solar and wind initiatives designed to diversify the province's energy mix. The summit will highlight the role of renewable energy in achieving energy security.
The gathering also emphasizes the importance of community involvement. Organizers encourage residents, business owners, and industry leaders to participate in the conversation and contribute to shaping the province's energy roadmap.
