CORDOVA, Cebu — Executive Secretary Ralph Recto led the distribution of rice aid to 3,194 residents at the Cordova Sports Complex on August 13, 2026, while also turning over a ₱265‑million Special Allotment Release Order to the provincial government. The event showcased a united effort between national and local leaders.
Rice Relief for Vulnerable Sectors
The Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program reached fisherfolk, single parents, senior citizens, and other community sectors in Cordova. Each beneficiary received 10 kilograms of rice, offering immediate relief from rising food costs. The distribution was designed to ease the burden on households that need it most.
Recto emphasized that the assistance is part of a continuing commitment to bring help closer to communities. He said government succeeds when national and local leaders work together, a theme echoed throughout the day. The rice aid is scheduled to continue every other month in the town.
Massive Funding for Local Projects
Governor Pamela Baricuatro received the ₱265‑million SARO, which will fund health programs, rural energy initiatives, farm‑to‑market roads, and food security projects across the province. The allocation is part of a larger ₱339.8‑million national assistance package for Cebu. Several municipalities and cities will also receive their own shares under the Local Government Support Fund.
The governor expressed deep gratitude for the continued support, noting that Cebu has benefited greatly from national‑local collaboration. She said the funds will be used to improve the lives of Cebuanos, especially in critical areas like healthcare and infrastructure. The investment signals strong confidence in the province’s development priorities.
Barangay Programs and Community Upliftment
The event also featured the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang program, which provides each barangay with funds for local projects and scholarships. Under this initiative, qualified fourth‑year college students receive ₱20,000 each, while communities can acquire essential equipment like tents and chairs. This approach ensures that benefits reach the grassroots level.
Mayor Cesar Suan of Cordova welcomed the national government’s presence, highlighting the partnership as a model for effective service delivery. Other mayors from Balamban, Cebu City, and Sogod also attended, showing regional solidarity. The gathering reinforced the importance of aligning local and national priorities.
A Stronger Cebu Through Unity
The turnover ceremony underscored the administration’s commitment to inclusive growth. By combining rice aid, infrastructure funding, and educational support, the government aims to address both immediate needs and long‑term development. The event serves as a concrete example of how fiscal resources translate into tangible community benefits.
