ISABEL, LEYTE — Addressing public safety and animal welfare concerns across the municipality, the Local Government Unit of Isabel, supported by Mayor Bennet Pongos, spearheaded a Pet Population Control Drive providing free spay and neuter services. The initiative aims to manage the growing population of domestic pets, particularly cats and dogs, while preventing the spread of stray animals and related public health risks.

Successful Castration Drive Operations

During the drive, veterinary teams successfully neutered 37 domestic animals. The total included:

  • Cats: 19 felines successfully castrated.

  • Dogs: 18 canines castrated, including four impounded stray dogs caught near the municipal public market on July 30.

Cross-Jurisdictional Veterinary Support

The initiative was carried out through collaboration between local, city, and provincial veterinary specialists:

  • Ormoc City Veterinary Office: Led by City Veterinarian Dr. Froiland Sanchez, alongside Dr. Kathleen Hermosilla and supporting technical staff.

  • Leyte Provincial Veterinary Office: Led by Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Lea Ramos, accompanied by Dr. Cecil Ceblot, Verlie Flores, and medical support personnel.

Local officials emphasized that offering free spay and neuter procedures helps pet owners manage their animals responsibly, preventing rabies transmission, reducing stray populations, and fostering a safer, cleaner community across Isabel.
