CEBU CITY — Cebu Province has recorded a total of 1,146,864 tourist arrivals from January to September 2026, marking an 8.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This significant surge highlights the robust recovery of the local tourism sector.

Domestic and Foreign Markets Surge

Domestic tourism remains the primary driver, with 896,314 arrivals reflecting a 4.45 percent growth. Meanwhile, foreign visitor numbers experienced a remarkable 26.52 percent jump, reaching a total of 250,550 international guests exploring the province's diverse attractions.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro expressed optimism regarding the sustained growth, emphasizing that the provincial government will continue working closely with stakeholders. The focus remains on supporting local livelihoods and ensuring communities directly benefit from the expanding tourism industry.

This dual growth in both domestic and international segments indicates a strong and balanced market. The data, compiled by the Provincial Tourism Office, underscores the province's effectiveness in attracting travelers seeking unique cultural experiences and world-class natural attractions.

South Korea Leads Foreign Arrivals

South Korea remains Cebu’s leading foreign source market, contributing 60,918 visitors. The United States follows with 23,594 arrivals, while Japan closely trails with 22,597. These top three markets reflect the province's strong international appeal across the Asia-Pacific and North American regions.

The report also noted positive arrival growth from 55 different countries, including China, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Malaysia. Municipalities like Cordova, Daanbantayan, and Moalboal, alongside Mandaue City, contributed significantly to these impressive international statistics.

Santa Fe Tops Municipal Arrivals

Among the local government units, Santa Fe recorded the highest number of arrivals at 130,553, followed by Oslob with 57,667 and San Remigio with 53,348. These municipalities continue to draw massive crowds due to their renowned beaches and immersive eco-tourism offerings.

However, 13 countries registered declines in visitor arrivals, prompting tourism officials to continuously monitor shifting international travel patterns. Authorities are actively assessing these fluctuations to identify opportunities and strengthen the province's competitive edge in the global market.

Consolidating Data for Future Growth

The consolidated figures encompass local government units with varying levels of reporting completeness. As of the reporting date, 23 LGUs submitted complete reports, while several others provided partial data, reflecting the ongoing efforts to streamline data collection across the province.

By meticulously analyzing these tourism performance metrics, the provincial government can accurately identify emerging trends. This data-driven approach is essential for crafting targeted policies that will sustain the industry's momentum and drive further economic development.

Moving forward, the provincial government aims to address the varying reporting completeness among local government units. Standardizing these metrics will ensure a more accurate representation of Cebu's tourism landscape, ultimately guiding better resource allocation and marketing strategies.
