DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur — A total of 373 solo parents from across the city received a much-needed financial boost on July 28, 2026, during the 2nd Quarter Solo Parent Subsidy Distribution at the Digos City Gymnasium. Each beneficiary walked away with ₱3,000, representing three months of government support under the city’s social protection program.
A Lifeline for Single-Parent Households
The subsidy, distributed by the City Social Welfare and Development Office, is designed to ease the daily burden of solo parents who are the sole breadwinners and caregivers of their families. For many recipients, the cash assistance means they can buy milk, medicine, or school supplies without having to borrow. The gymnasium was filled with mothers and fathers who arrived early, holding their children’s hands and clutching the required documents.
City Councilor Liza Maravillas Cagas, who chairs the Committee on Human Rights, Social Welfare, Family and Gender Development, addressed the crowd. She assured them that the local government is working tirelessly to expand social services so that more Digoseños feel the government’s direct support. Her words were met with grateful applause.
Commitment Beyond the Envelope
Councilor Cagas emphasized that the solo parent subsidy is just one piece of a broader safety net. The city also offers scholarship assistance, medical aid, burial and funeral support, and other social services. She stressed that under the leadership of Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas, Digos City remains committed to uplifting every vulnerable sector.
City Administrator Rex F. Cagas echoed that promise, noting that the LGU is continuously strengthening its programs. He encouraged the beneficiaries to view the subsidy not just as temporary relief but as a stepping stone toward greater financial stability. The presence of both councilors and administrators signaled the city’s united front in addressing poverty and inequality.
How the Program Works
The quarterly payout is anchored on the national Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, which entitles qualified solo parents to a monthly cash subsidy. In Digos City, the assistance is consolidated into a ₱3,000 distribution every quarter to streamline logistics. Beneficiaries must first register with the CSWDO and present proof of their status, such as a birth certificate, barangay certification, and income documents.
The July 28 distribution marked the second release for 2026, and organizers reported a smooth process. Volunteers helped direct the flow of recipients, while CSWDO staff verified identities before handing over the envelopes. The event concluded with a collective sense of gratitude, as parents left the gymnasium with lighter loads and brighter hopes for the days ahead.
