TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol – The City Government of Tagbilaran, in partnership with SPARK! Philippines and Sony Philippines, brought the transformative “Sine Niña: Girls’ Rights Workshop Through Film and Music” to local youth. The initiative harnessed the power of storytelling and creative expression to empower young Tagbilaranon women and amplify their voices.
A Creative Platform for Young Women
The workshop centered on the documentary Sine Niña, which tells the real stories of Filipino girls navigating challenges like identity, mental health, and societal expectations. Participants watched the film and then engaged in guided discussions about their own experiences. The documentary served as a mirror, reflecting their struggles and sparking honest, emotional conversations.
Beyond the screening, the program incorporated music and hands-on creative activities to deepen the impact. Young attendees wrote songs, shared personal reflections, and explored their rights in a safe, supportive environment. The combination of film and music gave them multiple avenues to express themselves and connect with mentors.
Powerful Partners Unite for a Cause
The event was made possible through the collaboration of several key organizations. SPARK! Philippines, an NGO dedicated to women’s empowerment, spearheaded the initiative with Executive Director Maica Teves. Sony Philippines provided resources and creative expertise, drawing on the talents of its music artists.
The original score for Sine Niña was composed by Pat Lasaten and Agnes Reoma of the acclaimed Filipino band Ben&Ben, whose music added emotional depth to the film’s message. The project also featured contributions from other Sony Music artists, including Barbie Almalbis and Hazel Faith. Their involvement signaled the entertainment industry’s commitment to social advocacy.

Mayor Jane Yap emphasized the city’s dedication to providing opportunities for its youth to learn and lead.
