BOHOL — Bohol is expanding its tourism footprint beyond Panglao as more visitors discover the province's inland communities, beaches, rivers, and protected natural attractions.
The province recorded 1,427,362 tourist arrivals in 2025, a 4.18 percent increase from the previous year. The growth is encouraging efforts to spread tourism across Bohol's 47 municipalities instead of concentrating visitors mainly in Panglao.
Bohol Airport Supports Growing Tourism
The Bohol-Panglao International Airport remains the province's main gateway, handling about 2.22 million passengers in 2025. Foreign tourist arrivals also increased by 14.75 percent, supported by improved air connectivity and international travel. With more visitors entering through Panglao, tourism planners are working to connect them with destinations farther across the province.
Chocolate Hills and Loboc Lead Inland Tourism
Carmen, home to the famous Chocolate Hills, remains a major attraction for inland tourism. The geological formations are also an important part of Bohol's UNESCO Global Geopark identity. Meanwhile, the Loboc River continues to attract visitors through its river cruises, natural scenery, and cultural experiences. Together, these destinations give tourists more reasons to explore beyond Bohol's beaches.
Anda and Talibon Offer More Options
In eastern Bohol, Anda is gaining attention as a quieter beach destination, with Quinale Beach among its popular attractions. Northern Bohol is also developing ecotourism in Talibon, where mangroves, marine life, birds, and protected areas provide opportunities for nature-based travel. These destinations can help spread tourism income and employment to communities outside Panglao.
Sustainable Tourism Across Bohol
Improved transportation and planned infrastructure projects are expected to make it easier for tourists to reach inland and coastal municipalities. As visitor numbers grow, however, Bohol also faces the challenge of protecting its natural resources. Community-based tourism, accredited accommodations, and responsible travel practices can help ensure that tourism benefits local residents while protecting the province's environment.
By promoting destinations beyond Panglao, Bohol is developing a more diverse tourism industry built around its beaches, rivers, geological attractions, culture, and communities. The approach could further strengthen Bohol's position as a leading Philippine tourism destination while supporting more inclusive and sustainable growth across the province.
