DAVAO — The local government of Mati is calling on all dance enthusiasts to lace up their dancing shoes as registration officially opens for the Sambuokan Dancesport 2026. Set to take place on October 27, 2026, at the scenic MFGR Park and Baywalk, the event promises a spectacular display of grace and athleticism.
A Showcase of Latin Discipline Dances
This year’s competition features a rigorous Grade A event format, challenging participants to master five distinct Latin-American discipline dances. Couples will compete in the lively Samba, the rhythmic Cha-cha-cha, the passionate Rumba, the dramatic Paso Doble, and the energetic Jive.
Both the Kids and Adult Categories will follow this five-dance structure. The event is designed to highlight not just technical proficiency, but the expressive storytelling that makes dancesport such a captivating spectacle. It provides a premium platform for local dancers to demonstrate their refined choreography and emotional connection.
Lucrative Prizes for Top Dancers
To attract the region's finest talent, the organizers have prepared a highly competitive prize pool for both the Kids and Adult Categories. The Grand Prize winner will take home a substantial ₱10,000, recognizing their exceptional skill and dedication.
The stakes remain high for the runners-up, with the First Runner-Up receiving ₱7,000 and the Second Runner-Up securing ₱5,000. This generous financial incentive underscores the local administration's commitment to supporting the arts and sports sectors. It also motivates dancers to push their boundaries and deliver breathtaking performances.
Strict Guidelines and Limited Slots
To maintain a high standard of competition, organizers have implemented strict eligibility rules. Competitors must be bonafide residents of Mati and are required to submit a clear copy of their PSA Birth Certificate. The age brackets are divided into the Kids Category for ages 8 to 15, and the Adult Category for those 16 and above.
Slots are strictly limited to just 10 couples per category for both Kids Latin and Adult Latin. This exclusive cap guarantees an intimate and highly focused environment, ensuring that every participating couple receives ample attention on the dance floor. Early registration is strongly encouraged to secure a spot.
