TOLOSA, LEYTE — Infrastructure connectivity in rural Leyte received a significant boost following the completion of the first phase of the Sitio Lukton Farm-to-Market Road (FMR) in Barangay San Vicente, Tolosa.
Enhanced Infrastructure for Agricultural Transport
Executed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 1st District Engineering Office (DEO), the newly concreted thoroughfare addresses long-standing transit challenges for local farming communities:
Paved Road Access: The initial phase delivered an 800-meter concrete road segment, opening vehicle access to Sitio Lukton and permitting four-wheeled transport to reach the interior area directly.
Faster Goods Transit: Local agricultural producers can now transport crops and farm yields to wider markets faster and with significantly reduced haulage costs and product spoilage.
All-Weather Commute: The concrete paving provides safer, uninterrupted travel for workers, residents, and students during severe weather and heavy rains when unpaved dirt roads previously became impassable.
Phase 2 Expansion and Long-Term Impact
With Phase 1 operational, DPWH Leyte 1st DEO is preparing for the implementation of Phase 2, which will further extend the concrete road network to strengthen regional connectivity, support local economic development, and improve access to basic public services across Tolosa.
