TACLOBAN CITY — Public transportation across the province is set for a major modernization overhaul as the Province of Leyte officially secured a Notice of Compliance from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) for its Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP). Awarded following a comprehensive evaluation by LTFRB Region 8 and its Technical Panel, the milestone framework aims to establish a more organized, efficient, and demand-responsive transit network for commuters and operators alike.
Addressing Long-Standing Transport Gaps and Rationalizing Routes
According to LTFRB-8 Regional Director Gualberto N. Gualberto, the newly approved plan serves as a vital tool to resolve persistent mobility challenges, including overlapping routes, underserviced corridors, and transport shortages in rapidly expanding communities. By aligning transit deployment with actual passenger demand, road networks, and regional economic activities, the framework enables transport operators to streamline their daily runs while giving local government units a clearer foundation for managing municipal connectivity.
Next Steps Toward Provincial Implementation
With the compliance notice now secured, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan is set to enact a formal ordinance adopting the LPTRP as the official regulatory basis for local transport routes. For everyday commuters traveling to schools, workplaces, and health facilities, the systematic rollout promises more reliable and accessible travel options, ultimately supporting the smooth movement of people and commerce throughout Leyte's municipalities and barangays.
