UPLIFT Assistance Reaches Tabango Families

LEYTE - Government assistance has reached vulnerable households in Tabango through the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s UPLIFT program. A total of 1,524 residents recently received financial support intended to help them manage household expenses and cope with continuing economic pressures. The program provides assistance to poor and near-poor families for six months, giving beneficiaries additional resources while they work toward rebuilding more stable sources of income. For households dealing with limited earnings, the support can provide temporary financial breathing room and help them address some of their most immediate needs.

Support Comes as Families Face Rising Expenses

Tabango officials said the assistance is particularly important for families whose livelihoods depend on small-scale and seasonal sources of income. Some beneficiaries rely on farming and fishing, occupations that can be affected by changing economic conditions and unpredictable earnings. For these households, additional financial support can help cover essential expenses while they look for ways to strengthen their livelihoods. The program also recognizes that economic vulnerability is not limited to larger households, as even families with only a few members can struggle when food and other basic commodities become more expensive.

Encouraging Beneficiaries to Invest in Their Future

While welcoming the assistance, Tabango Mayor Maria Corazon Remandaban emphasized that government aid should be viewed as a means of helping families move forward rather than as a permanent source of income. She encouraged recipients to continue working, seek available opportunities, and use the financial support responsibly. Whenever possible, beneficiaries are also encouraged to put part of the assistance toward small livelihood activities that could eventually generate additional income. This approach aims to turn short-term assistance into a stepping stone toward greater household self-reliance.
