ORMOC CITY, Leyte — To bridge the digital divide in higher education, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Ormoc City officially turned over free academic tablets to 477 freshmen students of the City College of Ormoc (CCO) during a ceremonial distribution at the Ormoc City Hall Lobby on Friday, August 28, 2026.

The tablet distribution program is designed to equip first-year college students with essential digital infrastructure, ensuring equal access to online academic resources, research databases, and modern coursework requirements.
Key highlights of the educational initiative include:
LGU Funding Support: Fully financed by the LGU-Ormoc through the City College of Ormoc to promote accessible, tech-driven tertiary education.
Direct Academic Access: Providing reliable hardware to support independent study, digital literacy, and modern classroom integration across all CCO degree programs.
Sustained Student Backing: Supporting incoming batches to ensure financial constraints do not hinder academic performance.
Leadership Rally Behind Local Youth
The official distribution ceremony was led by City Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez and Congressman Richard Gomez, alongside city leaders and academic administrators dedicated to expanding local youth development programs.
Also present to support the beneficiaries were Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Members Tomas Serafica, Caren Torres Rama, Jasper Lucero, and Kia Mercadal, as well as the CCO faculty headed by OIC President Atty. Nolito Quilang. Through continuous investments in digital tools, Ormoc City continues to strengthen its local educational sector to better prepare students for the modern workforce.
