PHILIPPINES — The Philippines generated over PHP 122.8 million in tourism sales leads at the inaugural Diving, Resorts and Travel (DRT) Show in Chengdu, China, held from July 17 to 19, 2026. The Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) announced the milestone on Friday, highlighting the country's growing appeal in the Chinese dive market.

A Milestone in Western China

The DRT Show Chengdu marked the event's first edition in the city, offering Philippine stakeholders direct access to one of China's emerging outbound travel markets. The Tourism Promotions Board led the delegation, which included 19 co-exhibitors from Luzon and Visayas. Participants comprised three dive tour operators, twelve dive resorts, three dive centers, and the Municipality of Puerto Galera.

The 90-square-meter Philippine pavilion showcased the country's diverse underwater attractions, drawing interest from trade buyers, dive professionals, and travel consumers. The pavilion became a hub of activity throughout the three-day event. Visitors explored the Philippines' rich marine offerings, from vibrant coral reefs to historic wrecks.

Showcasing World-Class Dive Destinations

TPB Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles emphasized the country's exceptional marine ecosystems. She said the participation introduced more travelers and industry partners to the Philippines' diving experiences. The event created new opportunities for collaboration with the Chinese market, strengthening ties between the two countries.

The Philippines is home to some of the world's richest marine biodiversity, offering world-class underwater experiences for divers of all skill levels. The delegation highlighted renowned dive sites across the archipelago, from Luzon to the Visayas. This diversity positions the country as a premier destination for marine tourism.

Building Partnerships Through Dive Night

Beyond the exhibition floor, the delegation hosted the Philippine Dive Night, which gathered 53 Chinese dive companies and diving clubs. The networking event allowed local exhibitors to build new partnerships and strengthen existing relationships. Discussions centered on promoting the Philippines as a preferred destination for diving holidays.

The Philippine Dive Night served as a platform for meaningful business engagement. Exhibitors connected with potential partners and explored collaborative opportunities to expand their reach. The event reinforced the Philippines' commitment to the Chinese dive market and its long-term growth potential.

Recognition and Awards

The Philippines received the Marine Tourism Excellence Award, recognizing its standing as a world-class marine destination. The Tourism Promotions Board also secured the Honorary Tourism Board Award, honoring its efforts to promote the nation as a premier diving hub. These accolades validate the country's strategic marketing initiatives.

The awards reflect the growing international recognition of the Philippines' dive tourism offerings. They also underscore the effectiveness of the TPB's participation in key travel trade shows. The recognition positions the country for further success in the global dive market.

Economic Impact and Future Opportunities

The PHP 122.8 million in sales leads represents tangible economic potential for the Philippine tourism sector. These leads can translate into bookings for dive resorts, tour operators, and local communities. The participation in DRT Chengdu aligns with the country's broader strategy to diversify its tourism markets.

The successful engagement in Western China opens doors for sustained growth in the Chinese outbound dive market. The Philippines is positioning itself as a top choice for Chinese travelers seeking exceptional underwater experiences. This momentum is expected to drive further investments and partnerships in the dive tourism industry.
