DAVAO CITY — The City Government of Davao, in partnership with the Department of Education, officially inaugurated 26 brand-new classrooms on October 19, 2026. This initiative marks a significant step in providing accessible and high-quality educational facilities for local students across the region.
A Monumental Milestone for Dabawenyo Learners
The recent turnover includes a four-storey building with 20 classrooms at Tamugan National High School. Additionally, a three-storey facility with six classrooms was officially opened at Balah Licosan National High School, offering safer and more conducive learning spaces for the youth.
These new facilities are equipped with modern amenities designed to foster an optimal learning atmosphere. Students can now enjoy spacious classrooms that promote better interaction and engagement, reflecting the city's deep dedication to holistic educational advancement.
Addressing Classroom Shortages
These new buildings represent more than just concrete and steel; they are a profound investment in the future of the youth. By providing better-equipped learning spaces, the local government is taking massive steps to address the perennial classroom shortages in the region.
Since January of this year, the city government has successfully completed a total of 88 classrooms. This rapid expansion ensures that every Davaoeño learner has the absolute best environment to learn, grow, and succeed in their academic journey.
The strategic placement of these new facilities directly benefits the growing student population in these specific districts. It relieves overcrowding and allows teachers to implement more effective instructional strategies, significantly enhancing the overall quality of public education in Davao City.
A Strong Partnership for Education
The achievement is a shining testament to the power of strong collaboration between the Local Government Unit and DepEd Davao City. When collaborative leadership meets sustained investment, the children ultimately win.
Atty. Antoinette G. Principe graced the turnover ceremonies, showing invaluable presence and unwavering support for these initiatives. She is recognized as another champion for education, helping drive the vision forward alongside key local leaders.
This collaborative framework ensures that resources are maximized and deployed exactly where they are needed most. The synergy between city hall and the education department guarantees that infrastructure projects are completed efficiently and meet the highest standards of safety.
Sustained Investment in the Future
Funding for these vital infrastructure projects was sourced through the City’s Special Education Fund (SEF). This dedicated financial mechanism allows the local government to continuously build and upgrade public schools without relying solely on national allocations.
With more classrooms expected to open before the end of the year, Davao City remains steadfast in its commitment to educational excellence. The continuous development of school facilities underscores the local administration's dedication to a brighter future.
This relentless push for better school infrastructure highlights the local government's proactive approach to community development. By investing heavily in educational resources, Davao City builds a stronger, more resilient foundation for the next generation of professionals and leaders.
