A Day When Teachers Took the Spotlight
BACOLOD - The celebration at SM City Bacolod offered teachers an opportunity to gather outside their regular school responsibilities and simply enjoy being part of a larger community. Events like this can carry a different meaning for educators because much of their daily work revolves around attending to other people’s needs. The “Teacher, Ikaw Naman” theme reinforces that change in perspective by putting appreciation for educators at the center of the celebration. DepEd’s national campaign described the theme as an invitation for society to give teachers the attention, gratitude, and care that they regularly extend to learners.
More Than Lessons Inside a Classroom
Teachers’ work reaches well beyond writing lessons on a board or checking assignments. They communicate with families, guide students through difficulties, prepare school activities, manage classrooms, and help learners build confidence in their abilities. That wider role was reflected in school-based activities around Bacolod, including the Bacolod City SPED Center’s appreciation efforts for teachers who work with learners with special educational needs. The school highlighted patience, compassion, understanding, and encouragement as important parts of their teachers’ contribution, offering another perspective on why recognition can be meaningful to educators.
Appreciation That Extends Beyond One Celebration
The gathering also fits into a broader period of activities designed to recognize teachers and encourage communities to participate in their appreciation. In Bacolod, schools have been preparing for Teachers’ Day activities while education institutions across the country have been carrying out their own recognition programs under the same national theme. A Bacolod school community in Vista Alegre, for example, joined the national teachers’ celebration by highlighting educators as mentors, role models, and guides for young people. These efforts show how appreciation can take many forms, from a large gathering to a simple gesture from students, parents, colleagues, or community partners.
