BACOOR, CAVITE - is set to strengthen its food security and sustainability programs with the establishment of a "Hito and Tilapia Grow-Out Facility" in Sitio Dulong Pulo, Barangay Sinbanali, a collaborative project between the City Government, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 4A, the Provincial Fishery Office - Cavite, and the Office of the Agricultural Services-Bacoor (OAS).

A Collaborative Project to Strengthen Local Food Production

Bacoor is advancing its commitment to food security with the upcoming establishment of a dedicated aquaculture facility in Barangay Sinbanali. The project, which will focus on the grow-out of hito (catfish) and tilapia, is a strategic collaboration between the City Government of Bacoor, led by Mayor Strike B. Revilla, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 4A, the Provincial Fishery Office - Cavite, and the local Office of the Agricultural Services-Bacoor (OAS) . This multi-agency partnership aims to boost local food production and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for the community.

The facility in Sitio Dulong Pulo will serve as a key infrastructure for the city's aquaculture industry, building on a proven model of fish farming that has successfully provided additional livelihood and boosted production in other parts of the country . Mayor Strike has consistently prioritized initiatives that support local fisherfolk and enhance food security for Bacooreรฑos, with the city government previously launching similar programs like a catfish grow-out facility and a Fishermen's Dormitory in the same barangay . The project is also part of the broader "Tawid Gutom Program," aiming to provide additional livelihood opportunities and strengthen the resilience of the local food supply chain.

Project Milestones and Next Steps

Bacoor's project is already in an advanced stage of development. According to the announcement, the budget allocation for the facility is fully secured, and the infrastructure plans and layouts have been approved. The key next step is the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), which is currently underway and will officially commence construction.

This initiative aligns with the City Government's ongoing efforts to invest in sustainable aquaculture, having previously conducted a training on "Tilapia-Hito Polyculture and Postharvest Technologies" in partnership with the Villar SIPAG Foundation and the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute . The city also launched a Fishermenโ€™s Dormitory in Barangay Sinbanali to support local fisherfolk, along with distributing fishing paraphernalia to aid their livelihoods . Bacoor remains committed to strengthening its food security programs, including the expansion of the KADIWA P20 Rice Program to provide affordable rice to families.
