GENERAL TRIAS, CAVITE — The landscape of work is shifting, and the city of General Trias is making sure its modern-day heroes are not left behind. In a powerful move to bring sustainable livelihood opportunities directly to local homes, the City Government of General Trias, under the visionary leadership of Mayor Luis "Jon-Jon" A. Ferrer IV, has officially launched the latest rollout of its specialized Virtual Assistant (VA) Basic Training Program. Hosted at the city's Manpower Development Center, this 15-day intensive bootcamp is implemented in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and the digital experts at McCare Career Academy.
Mastering High-Demand Skills Close to Home
Following a rigorous evaluation and live assessment phase conducted last September 4, 2026, a select roster of motivated trainees has officially stepped into the classroom. Over the course of 15 learning-packed days, these scholars are shifting away from conventional employment boundaries to conquer the booming digital economy. The comprehensive on-site syllabus bridges the gap between raw potential and commercial marketability, guiding students through core digital applications with hands-on mastery of remote administrative toolsets, calendar management, and productivity software; client management and outreach, covering professional business communication, remote work etiquette, and boundary-free collaboration; and sustainable financial independence, teaching how to navigate trusted global freelance directories and manage independent online businesses from any room in the house. This initiative builds on General Trias' strong track record in employment facilitation, following the success of the Land a Job Fast Mega Job Fair and Lingkod Bayani on the Go: Government Express 2026, which connected over 1,200 jobseekers with more than 4,000 job vacancies earlier this year.
Redefining Reintegration for OFW Families
For decades, millions of Filipinos have faced the heartbreaking necessity of working overseas, sacrificing years away from their children to secure a stable income. This joint initiative fundamentally changes that narrative. By teaching top-tier virtual assistance skills, the GenTri local government is empowering returning heroes and their spouses, siblings, or children to tap into international dollar economies—all while staying rooted in Cavite. "This program isn't just about learning how to operate software," an organizing team member shared. "It is an actionable roadmap toward rebuilding lives, reclaiming family time, and building strong financial foundations without checking in at an international airport."
A Gateway to a Borderless Digital Career
As this eager batch embarks on an intensive half-month journey of technical education and upskilling, General Trias continues to cement its status as a forward-thinking, tech-forward municipality. Congratulations to the new trainees—your gateway to a borderless digital career has officially opened! This initiative reflects the city's broader commitment to workforce development, complementing other programs like the DOLE Technical and Advisory Visit for business owners and the various livelihood assistance initiatives that support local entrepreneurs and workers. By equipping OFWs and their families with in-demand digital skills, General Trias is not only addressing the immediate needs of returning workers but also building a more resilient and future-ready local economy that can compete in the global digital marketplace.
