CEBU — Barangay Gun-ob recently celebrated its annual Puso ug Lechon Festival, honoring St. Jude Thaddeus during its vibrant barangay fiesta. The event highlighted the community’s rich culinary heritage and artistic talents, drawing locals and visitors to witness a spectacular display of culture and tradition.
A Feast for the Senses
The festival transformed the barangay into a lively arena of creativity, where colorful costumes and dynamic street performances took center stage. Participants showcased choreography deeply inspired by the community's iconic local food traditions: the puso (hanging rice) and lechon (roasted pig).
These elements are more than just staple delicacies; they represent the ingenuity and shared identity of the Oponganon people. By integrating these culinary symbols into the performances, the festival successfully pays tribute to the hard work and cultural pride that have sustained the community for generations.
Celebrating Artistic Excellence
The competition was fierce as various production teams battled for the top honors. The Del Pam Fam Production claimed the Grand Champion title with their outstanding performance, "Gugma ug Pagkugi Halad sa Kabatan-onang Mananayaw." Their energetic routine and elaborate props captivated the audience and judges.
The G and J Fusion Production secured the 1st Runner-Up spot, while Team OST Productions took home the 2nd Runner-Up award. Special citations were also awarded, with G and J Fusion winning the Street Dancing Championship, and Del Pam Fam earning the prestigious Best in Costume award.
Crowning the Festival Queen
Adding glamour to the celebration was the highly anticipated Festival Queen 2026 pageant. Zoe Tumulak dominated the competition, securing the crown and sweeping multiple special awards, including Best in Production Number, Best in Solo Performance, Miss Photogenic, and the Social Media Choice Award.
Angel Cerbo was named 1st Runner-Up and won Best in Costume, while Samantha Cadz completed the royal court as 2nd Runner-Up. The pageant provided a platform for young women to display their confidence, intellect, and cultural appreciation, further enriching the festival's lineup of activities.
Fostering Local Tourism
Under the leadership of Mayor Cindi King-Chan, the Lapu-Lapu City Government continues to champion community festivals that preserve local culture. These events serve as crucial drivers for tourism, encouraging creativity and strengthening the identity of the city.
By supporting grassroots celebrations like the Puso ug Lechon Festival, the local government ensures that cultural heritage remains vibrant. Such initiatives not only unite the residents but also attract visitors, providing a significant boost to the local economy and the broader tourism sector of the region.
