CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — A dedicated 24/7 lounge for overseas Filipino workers officially opened at Clark International Airport, offering comfort and government services in one accessible space. The facility gives departing OFWs amenities typically reserved for premium travelers while sparing them trips to Manila.
A Comfortable Send-Off for Modern Heroes
The opening ceremony was led by Department of Migrant Workers Undersecretary Bernard Olalia, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan, and LIPAD Head of Operations Dante Basanta. Their presence underscored the government's commitment to honoring workers who sustain the national economy through remittances.
The lounge provides cozy seating areas, charging stations, and free high-speed Wi-Fi. Complimentary meals and beverages are also available, ensuring that departing workers begin their journey nourished and relaxed. The comfortable environment transforms the often stressful waiting period into a calm, dignified experience.
Government Services Inside the Terminal
Beyond physical comforts, the lounge functions as a frontline service hub for OWWA transactions. Workers can process their OWWA e-Card issuance without visiting a regional office beforehand. Membership registration, renewal, and status updates are handled on-site.
Welfare assistance and program inquiries are likewise accommodated within the facility. This integration saves workers valuable time and transportation expenses, particularly for those traveling from distant provinces. Every transaction completed at the airport removes one more burden from an already demanding departure process.
Convenience for Central and Northern Luzon Workers
Roughly 75 percent of Middle East-bound workers from Central and Northern Luzon originate from these regions. Having a dedicated facility at Clark reduces the need to endure long commutes to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport for international departures.
The lounge also helps decongest NAIA by encouraging travelers to use regional gateways. It is the fourth OFW Lounge in the country, joining facilities at NAIA Terminals 1 and 3 and Mactan-Cebu International Airport. The expansion reflects a deliberate policy of decentralizing international air travel.
Dignified Recognition Through Concrete Action
The facility translates government appreciation for overseas workers into tangible form. By offering amenities usually reserved for business-class passengers, the lounge acknowledges the sacrifices of ordinary workers who leave their families behind to earn a living abroad.
Public-private collaboration made the project possible. Government agencies DMW and OWWA worked alongside private airport operator LIPAD to embed public services within commercial infrastructure. This partnership model can be replicated in other regional airports across the country.
