BUTUAN CITY — The Butuan City Economic and Business Development Department (CEBDD) is spearheading a three-day Product Development and Enhancement Training designed to help local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), cooperatives, and barangay-level entrepreneurs transform their homegrown products into market-ready offerings. Scheduled for October 20–22, 2026, the intensive workshop will equip participants with practical skills in packaging, branding, quality improvement, and shelf-life management. The initiative reflects the city government's commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of Butuan's local enterprises and supporting inclusive economic growth at the grassroots level.
A Comprehensive Program for Product Transformation
The training covers four core areas that address the most common barriers preventing local products from reaching wider markets. Participants will learn packaging and design strategies to make their products stand out on store shelves and digital catalogs, as well as labeling and branding techniques to build consumer trust and communicate their product's story effectively. Sessions on quality and shelf-life upgrades will help entrepreneurs extend the longevity of their products safely, while a final module on market-ready enhancements will guide them in refining every detail to maximize value and profit margins. The program is designed for MSMEs, cooperatives, and barangay-level entrepreneurs with existing or prototype products, ensuring that the training is accessible to those who need it most.
Building on a Broader Ecosystem of Support
The CEBDD's training complements the broader ecosystem of support available to MSMEs in the region. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently launched the FSUU MIRACLE, a ₱150-million Shared Service Facility on Packaging and Labeling at Father Saturnino Urios University in Butuan City, providing MSMEs with access to modern packaging design, label development, and commercial printing services. DTI has also been actively supporting coconut-based enterprises through consultations on packaging and labeling, helping local products meet market requirements and improve shelf visibility. By equipping entrepreneurs with the knowledge to maximize these resources, the CEBDD training ensures that Butuan's local producers can take full advantage of the support systems available to them.
Why This Training Matters for Butuan's Local Enterprises
For Butuan's MSMEs, cooperatives, and barangay-level entrepreneurs, this training represents a direct investment in their capacity to compete. Many local producers have quality products but lack the technical knowledge to present them effectively in competitive markets. By addressing packaging, branding, quality, and shelf life in a single program, the training offers a holistic approach to product improvement. The focus on cooperatives and barangay-level enterprises ensures that the benefits reach the grassroots level, supporting livelihoods and economic activity across the city's communities. With limited slots available, interested participants are encouraged to register early through the provided link to secure their place in the workshop. The CEBDD's initiative stands as a testament to the city government's proactive role in nurturing local enterprise and building a stronger, more vibrant local economy.
